Our group and others have been in discussions with FINS and amongst ourselves as to how best to preserve and restore this important site for the benefit of our communities and the public at large. The disposition of this site has been discussed for well over 25 years and has taken all sorts of forms. Suggestions have ranged from letting it go and demolition to a tennis club, all dead ends. We are eternally grateful that the Fire Island Land Trust was able to find funding and arrest the deterioration. Roofs and windows were replaced and siding was repaired or replaced and the buildings were stabilized. In 2022 the NPS partially restored the interior of the cottage and here we are.
